Blood Orange Margarita with Casamigos & Agave

This Blood Orange Margarita is a fresh, colorful twist on the classic. Made with freshly squeezed blood orange juice, it’s perfectly tangy, balanced, and not overly sweet. The deep ruby hue alone makes it party-worthy — but the flavor keeps you coming back for another sip. Perfect for Cinco de Mayo or any festive night at home.

Equipment

Small bowl for Kosher salt

Ingredients

  • 4 oz tequila blanco, I recommend Casamigos
  • 2 oz fresh blood orange juice
  • 2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • ¾ oz agave nectar
  • Kosher salt
  • Blood orange and limes, for garnish, either wheels or wedges

Instructions

  • Make the blood orange marg. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add 4 oz tequila, 2 oz blood orange juice, 2 oz lime juice, 1 oz Cointreau, and ¾ oz  agave. Secure lid, then shake for 10-12 seconds to aerate the drink.
  • Prepare the glass, then serve. Run a lime wedge along the rim of a glass, then dip upside down into a shallow bowl of Kosher salt. Place ice in glass (optional). Strain into glasses and serve with blood orange wedges or wheels.

Notes

  • Agave substitute: Use simple syrup instead. Combine equal parts water and sugar (about 1 cup each) and heat gently (do not boil) until dissolved. Refrigerate airtight; keeps for several weeks.
