We always struggle when it comes to gifts for kids because (1) we think they have too many things already, but (2) we don’t generally buy them toys unless it’s a holiday or their birthday. We might as well keep the magic of the season alive as long as possible!
In addition to the games, gadgets, and toys below, we usually buy a few books for each kid — the boys are super into Dog Man, while our daughter sits and rereads all the The Babysitter Club graphic novels on repeat. As for books to enjoy with adults, they have all loved The Harry Potter series (le duh) as well as the Percy Jackson series. So much so that our oldest son is taking a class at his school on Greek mythology, which we think is pretty amazing. Books truly are the greatest source for inspiration and imagination!
I’ve left off some popular items — LOL Surprise, Hatchimals, Pokémon, Nerf guns, video games, etc — but rest assured, our house is just as full of those as every other home with elementary school kids… I kind of wish it wasn’t.
Whatever the child your shopping for is into, I hope we can all agree that the biggest gift of the season is spending time together, and that we should teach our children the value of giving back to others. Wishing you and all the kiddos in your life a happy holiday season!
