Cosmo-rita? What Exactly Is A Pomegranate Tequila Cosmo?
Is it a cosmo? Is it a margarita? It’s the best of both worlds! Made from tequila blanco, Cointreau, lime juice, and pomegranate juice, this pomegranate tequila cocktail is smooth, easy to drink, and slightly sweet from the pom juice with no additional added sugar!
And yes, we’re just going to say it — this cocktail gives our beloved Paper Plane a run for its money!

Ingredients You’ll Need For A Pomegranate Tequila Cosmo
This cocktail was a total accident. I was staring at the recipe for a classic cosmo and thought, “Eh, why not?” only to find out that I had no vodka (shocking to literally no one, it is my least favorite spirit!) and also had no cranberry juice (also not a surprise).
So I improvised!
- Tequila blanco instead of vodka.
- Pomegranate juice instead of cranberry juice
- 1 whole lime, juiced, because I always like a lot of citrus in my drinks!
- Cointreau (standard in both cosmopolitan cocktails as well as margaritas)
And for the record, 10 out of 10 times I will choose Cointreau over Triple Sec. Is it more expensive? Yes. Does it taste so much more delicious? Also yes!

How To Make Our New Favorite Tequila Cocktail
- Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice, then pour in all ingredients. Secure the lid on top, then shake vigorously for 15 – 20 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is frosty.
- Strain and pour cocktail into a coupe glass. Enjoy!
It’s a pretty straightforward shaken cocktail (which is my favorite, I’m sure you’ve noticed).
This is my cocktail shaker, which I’ve used and loved for years. Highly recommend.

What Does It Taste Like?
Oh, I’m so glad you asked! It is light and sweet and refreshing, perfect on a hot spring or summer day. We haven’t tried this with tequilas other than tequila blanco — we love Casamigos tequila blanco the most! — which are aged less than tequila reposado or tequila anejo.
Generally, blanco tequilas are agave-forward (slightly sweeter) than their longer aged relatives. They’re our go-tos for light, citrusy drinks. Anejo tequila is typically used in heavier drinks, while Reposado is reserved as a whiskey substitute for its heft, weight, and flavor.
With the combination of tequila, pomegranate juice, Cointreau (an orange liqueur), and fresh lime juice, this cocktail is super light, citrusy, and waaaaay too easy to throw back.

Seriously cannot wait for you to try this cocktail!! It is absolutely going to be in constant rotation during our Friday night happy hours!

Ari introduced my fiancée and I to paper planes, and we can’t get enough of them. When Ari says this new cocktail rivals a paper plane, we had to try it ASAP! We loved this just as much, it’ll definitely be in our summer rotation.
YES YES YES! I think those two cocktails alone will be getting me through summer 2021! Cheers! xo, Ari
I didn’t think I would find a cocktail I enjoyed as much as the paper plane, then I tried Ari’s classic margarita…then I tried her pomegranate tequila cosmo…too many favorites and not enough evenings, ha!
Agree, this cocktail is so refreshing and light! Cheers! xo, Ari
