October is finally here which can only mean one thing: soup season!
The minute the air turns crisp, my Dutch oven basically moves in on the stovetop. 🙌🏻 There’s nothing I’d rather make on a cool evening than a big pot of soup. It’s cozy, it feeds a crowd, and most of these taste even better the next day (plus, many freeze beautifully).
This roundup pulls together my favorite fall soup recipes, organized by mood: vegetable-forward bowls that let seasonal produce shine, easy chicken soups for busy weeknights, a couple of hearty chilis, and the showstoppers I save for date night in or entertaining. Grab a crusty baguette, pour a glass of wine (coincidentally, it’s also red wine season!), and live your best cozy fall life.
Velvety, Vegetable-Forward Soups
These let fall produce do the heavy lifting. A couple rely on a hot oven to caramelize squash and tomatoes; the rest build flavor on the stovetop. Every one of them is easily made vegetarian.

When I need dinner on the table without much fuss, I reach for one of these. A few lean on store-bought rotisserie chicken to save time (my forever secret ingredient as a busy mom of three!), and every one is a full meal in a bowl.

Round Out Your Soup Night
A great soup deserves a great sidekick. With the green chicken chili, I love a wedge of jalapeño-cheddar skillet cornbread. For the Italian-leaning bowls, thick slices of garlic bread with anchovy butter are made for dunking. Want something fresh alongside? This crunchy kale and Brussels sprouts salad holds its own next to even the richest bisque.
And if there’s one upgrade I’ll always recommend, it’s homemade chicken broth. It’s the backbone of nearly every soup on this list (and really, most of my easy soup recipes), and it freezes perfectly. Can’t wait to hear which soup you make first!
